A 7:30 am start for a fantastic trail run: a challenging, well-marked course, featuring terrain that ranged from the relatively level, wide, stable, easy and safe to the steep, narrow, serpentine, rocky and precarious, plus colorful, and, in some instances, unnerving trail names (e.g., Broken Hip), beautiful scenery, and near-perfect weather.
Runners predicted their own finishing time prior to the start of the race and were not allowed to wear watches during the run. The runner finishing closest to his/her predicted time was the winner.
